{Sketchy Thursdays} 11.17 Challenge

Hiya! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I had a fantastic holiday and was in a sort of food induced coma for about 3 days after :p I can't believe how fast it came and went, and now it's time to get ready for the Christmas holiday! I've definately been trying to get caught up in all my gift making and holiday projects, but it seems to be piling up.  There really just isn't enough time in the day.

Anyways, I wanted to share with you real quick the layout I created for the Sketchy Thursdays challenge. I created it last week but almost forgot to share it :p As always, their sketch is fabulous!

The photos are of my godson Robert.  I actually created a 12x12 scrapbook of him as a present for his 1st birthday, but this is the first layout I created for my album.  I'm sure he'll be the subject of many future layouts :p

Sketchy Thursdays {September 22nd Challenge}

Hiya!  Here's the layout I created for Sketchy Thursdays Sept.22nd challenge. I'm really loving their sketches! I can't believe how many challenges are out there, I really wish I had the time to participate in all of them.  That being said, when I saw this week's sketch I just fell in love with it and it's simplicity.  I felt it was a layout I could definately complete in no time.  Now keep in mind a quick layout for me is one done in under 3 hours :p  I unfortunately don't have the talent like other scrapbookers to complete layouts quickly.  But I'm okay with that, because half the fun for me is finding the perfect paper or embellishment :)

The lace along the bottom was not originally planned but I accidentally messed up on my journaling and had to figure out a way to cover it up, LOL:p

Sketchy Thursdays {September 15th Challenge}

Hello! I just wanted to share a layout I created for the Sept.15th Sketchy Thursdays challenge. This is my first time participating in one of their challenges and I was just so inspired by their awesome sketch.  For this challenge they are also having a hop with ScrapFIT, another challenge blog that I definately will participate in the future.  So for this month's challenge you had to use their sketch and ScrapFIT's theme "Friends".  Here's what I ended up creating.

Here's how I created the background, simple and fun:

First I cut out a mask template and adhered it to the designer paper with repositionable adhesive.  Then I stamped all around the top of the mask with my versamark pad.  Afterwards, I removed the mask, sprinkled embossing powder and heat set it (easy, right! :p).

I used Lindy's Stamp Gang's embossing powder.  Their powders are awesome and shimmer like none I've seen before.  After embossing I misted the background with some LSG's glitz spritz and Smooch Spritz.

 I also heat embossed the chipboard frames with Lindy's Stamp Gang powders and used Crackle Accents on some of the flowers and title.  All the edges were distressed with Walnut Stain distress ink.

Once Upon A Sketch {September 1st challenge}

Hiya! Just wanted to share the layout I created using the September 1st sketch at Once Upon A Sketch. I'm so glad I was able to participate this month as I missed the last couple of challenges.  Things have just been so busy that I actually haven't had a chance to work on many scrapbook layouts. I have to admit that I really missed it! The page didn't come out as I planned, but I'm still happy that I was able to play along :)

Hello Blog, it's been awhile!

Hey there! Wow, I can't believe it's been a month since I posted anything.  Sorry it's been so long, time just flew by.  It's scary just how fast the month came and went, I honestly can barely remember what I did in August.  It's like one big BLUR! 

I do hope that everyone is doing well, and had a wonderful summer.  Although summer can be great I have to admit I'm glad it's over.  I absolutely love Fall! It's my favorite season, although where I live it technically still feels like summer with the temperature still in the 90's.  Oh well, I will just have to patiently wait until the cool crisp weather comes along.

In the meantime, here's a couple of things that I worked on sometime between July and August.  I have other projects to share but haven't had the time to photograph them.  I will probably share those with you in later posts.

Once Upon a Sketch {July 15th Challenge}

Heya again! So my computer seems to be functioning okay at the moment (knock on wood) so I thought I'd try and post about my latest layout using OUAS July 15th sketch.  Their sketches are just wonderful and I'm having so much fun playing along with their challenges.  Please do check them out, you won't be disappointed. Everyone's entries are just beautiful and I love to see how each person interprets the sketch to make it suit them.

The papers, title, and embellishments are all by My Mind's Eye.  The lace trim is by Recollections.  I stamped and embossed the flourishes and polka dot border.

{Naturally Pretty} 12x12 Layout

Heya! Once Upon a Sketch {June 15th Challenge}

Hey there!  Here's a 12x12 layout I created recently.  I just love these pictures of my little furbaby as you can tell, since I just used it on a previous layout.  Do you reuse the same photos on different layouts (this was the first time I ever did)?  This layout was inspired by the June 15 sketch on http://www.onceuponasketchblog.blogspot.com/.  I've only just discovered their blog and I'm totally loving their sketches.  I haven't participated in any of the previous challenges but was inspired by this sketch that I thought I'd give it a try.

Here is my interpretation of their sketch.  The papers and embellishments are by Echo Park and My Mind's Eye.  The title is everyone's fave, Thickers by American Crafts.  I also used Glossy Accents, Stickles, Distress Ink, Stamp, Embossing Powder, and Smooch Spritz to accent the page.

{Timeless Beauty} 12x12 Layout

Hey there :)  Here's another 12x12 layout.  It's really been so long since I've created actual layouts, I've been doing mostly mini albums lately. Creating that page from yesterday really helped to re-jumpstart my love for making them.  This layout was created for a heritage album that I'm making for my mother. She has for the longest time been asking me to create one for her.  Unfortunately, I've never gotten around to making one.  So, I decided it was about time that I did.  I plan (HOPE) on finishing it in time to give to her as a birthday present next month. The papers are by Prima and Websters Pages.

"My Wet Dog" 12x12 Layout

Hi there! I hope everyone's week is starting off well.  Here's a 12x12 layout I created with the LSG products that were still sitting on my desk since my last post :p  I really need to learn to clean up after each project!  I wanted to challenge myself this time by just using white cardstock instead of patterned paper for my background.  I had alot of fun creating my own design with starbursts stains. The last time I ever worked on just a white background was prob about 10 yrs ago when I first started scrapbooking!  Here is how I created the layout.  Hope you like it!

I first started by using the negative part of the TimHoltz Flourish mask as a stencil. I dabbed it with starburst stain in Hydrangea Blue.

Then I misted the background with Starburst Stains in Azure Sea Asters and Glitz Spritz Desert Moon Endless Sky.  I added drops of alcohol to give it water spots.  Note: I added acrylic glazing liquid to the stains and spritzs in a separate water bottle.  You can still achieve the water spots without the acrylic but it yields a slightly different effect.

I added "puddles" of starburst stain Sea Mint Green to the right side and turned my page upside down and tilted it in different directions to let the drops flow naturally to create the seaweed look. 

For the fish I used the starburst stains in Azure Sea Asters and Sea Mint Green with drops of alcohol to create the effect.  I added many layers of the stains and dried it between each one till I was satisfied with the outcome. I inked around the edges with black soot distress ink.

I dipped some scrap paper onto the excess stains when I was creating the fish. You don't wanna waste any of that good stuff :p In the end I punched tags with it using my stampin up punch to use for journaling on the layout.

I added some Golden glass bead gel on the bottom to create the "sand".  When it was dry I dry rubbed it with LSG mica powder in Opaline Rosy Tan (my fave!). You can always use the mini glass beads you can purchase at Michaels or Joanns (it's alot cheaper) but personally this was convenient because it already had the adhesive mixed with it :p

On the fish I used sequin waste as a stencil and rubbed some mica powder (Opaline Rosy Tan) on it to create the "scales". I also added it to the top of the layout to balance it out a bit.  You can obviously use any stencil or stamps to decorate it the way you want :)

I dipped some chesse cloth in starburst stain Opal Sea Oats to age it.

I melted some sealing wax and poured it on my craft sheet and impressed it with my metal stamp. The product is 7gypsies but you can purchase sealing wax in the stationary section of most office supply stores and use a rubber stamp to imprint in it. On the final layout I rubbed around the sealing wax with mica powder in Milky Way Teal Green and on the raised writing with black soot distress ink.

I altered the sea creatures and wire hooks with LSG embossing powder in Twilight Bronze Slate. Then rubbed Opaline Rosy Tan mica powder on top.

I distrezzed around the edges of  the white cardstock, mounted it on black cardstock then mounted that onto blue cardstock.  I added additional embellishments like rubons and bling to finish it up.  Here's how it looks like all put together. All it needs is some journaling to complete it.
